Great knock for Eagles

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club weathers the storm as they kick-off the second half of the Easterns Cricket League.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club kicked-off the second half of the Easterns Cricket League this weekend, with a mixed bag of results.

On Sunday the club faced the Etwatwa Cricket Club in the Promotion League, at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

The Eagles won the toss, sending their visitors in to bat first opting to allow the pitch more time to dry from the previous night’s rain before their own batsmen took to the crease.

Etwatwa made the most of their 50 overs, setting a score of 197 all out.

The home side made it difficult for the visitors, keeping continuous pressure on the batsmen with their tight and organised fielding.

The Eagles’ top bowlers were Martiens Grobler with three wickets for 27 runs in six overs, Garreth Hann with three wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs and Billy Millar with three wickets for 41 runs in 10 overs.

It was then the team’s turn to the bat and they comfortably met and beat the score, with 198 runs in 42 overs with the loss of only five wickets.

The day’s top batsmen were Kobus Black with 89 runs and Trent Murray with 59 runs.

The man of the match award was given to Black after his outstanding batting efforts.

On Saturday, the Eagles were not as lucky, losing their Saturday Second League match against the Tembisa Cricket Club at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

Weather played a large role in the match’s outcome, with the home side batting first and only scrambling together 75 runs before they were all out.

Sage Pillay was the day’s top batsman making 22 runs in his time at the crease.

Tembisa batted second, and thanks to a brilliant effort by the Eagles’ bowlers, only managed to win the game by two runs, with two wickets in hand.

The day’s top bowlers were Trent Murray with three wickets for five runs in four overs and Cody Abrahams with two wickets for 12 runs in three overs.

All of the Elsburg Eagles’ teams will be in action this weekend.

On Saturday the club will take on Kempton Park Cricket Club in the Saturday Second League at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

While on Sunday the club will host the Duduza Cricket Club at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie for the Promotion League and the Actonville Cricket Club in the Presidents League at the Elsburg Sports Complex.
