SAPS nab runaway suspect

Man nabbed with toy gun, live ammunition after being knocked over by a truck.

Germiston SAPS members were patrolling in Germiston, last Tuesday, when they were stopped by a member of the community who wanted to give them information about two suspicious men.

The police rushed to the scene where they found the men.

As soon as they saw the police vehicle they started to run away.

“The police gave chase and the men tried to run across the busy M2 highway,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

“One managed to get across but the second suspect was knocked over by a truck.

“The truck driver stopped his vehicle and the suspect jumped up and continued to run away holding a firearm in his hand.”

The SAPS members managed to catch and arrest the man and found him to be in possession of unlicensed live ammunition, as well as a toy gun.

“The suspect was taken to hospital due to the injuries he sustained when he was knocked over by the truck.

“The matter is currently under police investigation,” said Raphulu.
