Metro increases police precincts as it takes crime battle to Zonkizizwe

Zonkizizwe now has its own police precinct.

In the quest to fight crime and social ills, the metro opened a multi-million Rand police precinct in Zonkizizwe last Tuesday.

The ceremony was overseen by the MMC of Community Safety Clr Vivian Chauke and acting chief of police, Maj-Gen Jabulani Mapiyeye.

Addressing the community, Chauke said the precinct represented a step closer in winning the fight against crime.

She warned those who didn’t comply with the metro’s by-laws to refrain from doing so.

“One of our key duties is ensuring that there is not just law and order, we must instil confidence in our people about safety and security interventions put in place.

“We also want to use the precinct to stop the disconnect between communities and our law enforcers,” said Chauke.

Pastor Paul Sikhosana, an elder from Palm Ridge Extension Five, welcomed the initiative.

“This precinct will help us in many ways as we don’t have a police station in close proximity.

“Previously, we reported cases at the Eden Park Police Station.

“We are happy we will not no longer be walking long distances to get help,” he said.
