Outstanding performance awarded

The Ekurhuleni ANC chief whip, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, visited various schools in Ekurhuleni, recently.

The Ekurhuleni ANC chief whip, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, congratulated the matric class of 2016 on its outstanding results produced, especially by township schools.

As part of the metro’s leading projects for its back-to-school campaign and adoption, Dlabathi, Member of Parliament (MP) Mondli Gungubele and ward councillors visited various schools across Ekurhuleni, speaking to learners and checking on the state of readiness.

Dlabathi said it is important to check on local schools and assess the learning environment in order to grant support and assistance where it is needed.

Dlabathi congratulated Germiston-based Phumula Gardens Secondary School’s Mzwandile Buthelezi (17) for achieving five distinctions and scoring 100 per cent for mathematics and physical science.

Sakhile is set to study medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand this year.

The youngster and Sipho Xaba (17) from Comprehensive Secondary School, in Vosloorus, received awards for their outstanding results from Gauteng MEC of education, Panyaza Lesufi.

Xaba received four distinctions and 100 per cent for physical science.

The awards were received at an award ceremony held at Chief Luthuli Primary School in Daveyton, recently.

“The metro has always prioritised education and this is evident with the current administration committing to a budget of R100-million to assist deserving learners to further their studies,” said Dlabathi.

The chief whip also believes it is important that all the schools that performed poorly in the recent matric results get all the necessary support to improve their results.

Dlabathi met with coordinators of the Academy of Mathematics, Accounting, Science and Art.

“The purpose of the meeting was to ascertain possible partnerships and interventions to assist schools and learners in Ekurhuleni,” he said.

“We also plead with parents to play a consistent role in the education of their children to ensure that the class of 2017 produce even better results.”
