Mayoral service delivery programme #Siyaqhuba continues

Mayor to tackle service delivery in the metro.

The metro has hit the ground running in 2017, as the mayoral service delivery programme continues.

In his first 100 days in office, executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina introduced the #Siyaqhuba campaign as part of a drive towards ensuring that service delivery issues are rapidly responded to and more importantly, the people of the metro are in closer proximity to public representatives. From January 9, the #Siyaqhuba service delivery programme started, seeing officials interact directly on the street with the people and more importantly contractors accounting on site for delayed projects.

Masina has emphasised the need for urban rejuvenation in the major towns of Ekurhuleni.

“The City of Ekurhuleni requires an effective system which synchronises rapid response and service delivery within the nine towns.

“More importantly there must be a seamless approach towards our response to service delivery issues such as potholes, sidewalks and our health and safety issues,” Masina said.

Currently Masina is on the ground for the next two weeks, making an assessment of Germiston.

He indicated that Germiston is one of the most historical towns in Ekurhuleni and houses the municipal precinct.

“It can’t be correct that Germiston still looks like a town from the past and buildings are dilapidated,” he said.

He has plans to ensure that there is a major renewal project for Germiston and Kempton Park as they are major logistical links, not just for the people of Ekurhuleni, but for the country and the continent.

Through the #Siyaqhuba service delivery drive, the mayor has called for an urgent audit of hijacked buildings, attendance to sidewalks and potholes and a major clean-up and the reinforcement of the Peace Corps and the Clean City Brigade.

During his site visits, the executive mayor is accompanied by members of the mayoral committee, the city manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, divisional head in operations: customer relations, Goodness Nhlapho, as well as other divisional heads and senior officials.

The #Siyaqhuba drive will be in Germiston for the next two weeks and will subsequently move towards all nine towns.

Each street and block of the town will be visited daily.
