Germiston South Primary School’s first day a success

Germiston South Primary School had a busy start to their 2017 academic year.

Germiston South Primary School, like many other schools, commenced their academic year on Wednesday.

It was a busy day, as parents accompanied their first-time Grade One children to school.

Lanette Fouchè, the school’s principal, told the GCN that although the first day was busy, they managed to pull through and have a successful first day.

“Parents were also present and wanted to know if their children are okay, which is fine as they have their children’s best interest at heart,” said Fouchè.

“We try to accommodate, answer and assist them, as well.

“Some of the Grade Ones got lost this morning, because they didn’t come to yesterday’s orientation day and didn’t have their name tags – so I also had to go and place them in the right classes.”

The school registered 200 Grade One learners for 2017.

Fouchè also said the school has organised a workshop, which will take place at the school on January 21.

“The main thing and aim for the orientation and workshop, is to get the little grade ones and grade R learners on track,” she said.

“We want them to understand how the school system works; what’s expected of the parents and children, rules and conditions of the school, among other things – to ensure there are no grey areas.

“The workshop will help the young ones to adapt to good habits, so that as they proceed to higher grades, they are familiar with the school requirements and our system.

“The grade one teachers will also show the parents how to help their children with counting, colours and puzzles with different strategies.”

Fouchè also said they will be imparting hands-on, fun activities, because they want to make education fun for the learners.
