Woman manages to escape assault

Man arrested after he allegedly beat and strangled a woman in the Makause informal settlement.

A woman was forced to flee for her life after she was allegedly attacked by her child’s 26-year-old father.

The incident took place in the Makause informal settlement.

When opening a case at the Primrose Police Station the victim told officers that she had been in her shack asleep when she heard a knock on the door.

“When she opened the door she found her child’s father and a woman, unknown to her.

“She asked why they were there to which the accused allegedly replied that she shouldn’t ask him stupid questions,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Without another word the man allegedly began to assault the woman, punching and even strangling her.

During the attack she managed to escape and ran to find help.

Using the description given by the victim the suspect was traced and arrested.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
