An end to a wonderful year

Lambton-based Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy hosted a wonderful prize-giving to end off a wonderful year.

Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy ended off a magical year with a fun-filled prize-giving ceremony at the Germiston City Sports Grounds on Saturday evening.

The festive event saw club members, accompanied by their friends and family, eagerly applauding for every award presented.

Recipients enthusiastically stood to receive their well-deserved trophies.

“We had an incredibly successful year throughout; we started on a good note and managed to sustain the same momentum the whole year round,” said kanchu Alex Tebbutt.

“I am proud of all the club members as they stuck together and encouraged each other during competitions and training sessions.”

The night saw more than 41 awards being presented, from referee of the year to victor and victrix ludorum.

Ten of the club’s members were also presented with their South African colours during the celebration.

“Let me remind you that nobody, in the club, leaves without an award. Each and every member will receive an award for the hard work and dedication that they showed throughout the year,” Tebbutt said with a smile.

Shihan Abdul Jogie, from Durban, a close personal friend of Tebbutt’s, attended the event to support the club and his old friend.

“We have bonded over the years and I am happy to be here tonight supporting him,” he said.

The pair hope to grow the bond between the dojos in the new year.

“Together we hope to host a series of successful training camps and tournaments.

“We hope our efforts will culminate in a joint overseas trip showing the world a united front from both Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal.”

Tebbutt and Jogie and will leave for Asia on December 13 where they will visit several dojos for training.

Tebbutt thanked all the guests for attending the event and making it a success.

The club will re-open on January 16 and Tebbutt is excited for the new challenges ahead.

“We have a host of new and exciting programmes lined up for the New Year and, of course, the doors are always open for new members,” he said.
