Five nabbed for armed robbery

The Primrose police arrested five men for armed robbery.

Following a recent Primrose police stakeout, five men were arrested for the armed robbery of a business.

Police were first alerted to the intended crime when an employee at the Sunnyridge business claimed that one of the accused had approached him and invited him to be involved in the crime.

“He alleged that he was approached by one of the suspects during the week, who requested him to help them to commit a robbery at the company.

“He claimed the man told him that what they steal will be sold and the money shared amongst the men involved,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

Officers set up a watch over the business and, at about 8pm, a vehicle pulled up to the business and two men entered the company’s guard room, pointed a firearm at the guards and tied them up with shoelaces.

“The police pounced and the suspects fled on foot leaving behind the vehicle they had arrived in.

“Through information gathered by police five men were arrested in connection with the crime,” Maome said.

The men were arrested and have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

The case was postponed for plea and trial.
