Queen of Gospel to tell her life story through music

South Africa’s “Queen of Gospel” tells her story in nostalgic musical showcase.

The legendary Dr Rebecca Malope will be performing her life story in a nostalgic musical showcase Angingedwa: This Is My Story at Carnival City in December.

The theatre production, produced by Artistry Talent Management, showcases the original autobiography of the living legend through acting, singing and dancing.

The inaugural show takes place in the Big Top Arena on December 3 with the greater vision being to take the show on tour across at least five South African provinces in 2017.

The show will include surprise guest performances by people Malope has worked with over the past 30 years and a cast filled with talented performers.

“What a privilege to host Dr Malope on our stage for the first public production of her life story. This show promises superlative entertainment for her fans,” said Matthew Cook, events and entertainment manager at Carnival City.

Malope has been in the industry as a musician since 1986 and 2016 marks her 30th year as a performing artist.

Throughout her 30-year career she has won numerous national and international awards, released 35 successful gospel albums, been the highest selling female artist in South Africa, received an honorary doctorate as a spiritual healer, performed all over the world and been dubbed the “Queen Of Gospel”.

Despite all of her remarkable accomplishments and accolades, her life story has not been all gold and glitter.

It is one filled with tremendous heartaches and struggles.

It is a story of resilience, determination and a true test of faith.

“I am looking forward to presenting a performance I have never done before and taking the audience on a journey of my life through music.

“From being a little girl in a rural township called Lekazi, going to school on an empty stomach and without shoes, dropping out of school, living in a child-headed household without my parents at age 10 and then hiking 400km from home to Evaton in pursuit of my dreams.

“I want to tell it all,” said Malope.

The event will showcase a one-of-a-kind autobiographical musical and promises to be an unforgettable experience that audience members will cherish forever.
