Police warn motorists not to pick up hitch-hikers

Police warn of hitch-hikers luring motorists to secluded locations and robbing them.

The Primrose police are appealing to motorists to stop picking up hitch-hikers.

This comes after police received reports that there are women, believed to be prostitutes, who pretend to be hitch-hiking to somewhere but instead take the drivers to secluded spots where they are robbed.

Hotspots include the Homestead area, Watsonia Park and Beaconsfield Avenue.

“A number of residents have reported such crimes to the Primrose police.

“However, we believe there are many not reporting the incidents out of fear that they may cause damage to their relationships and/or marriages,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

If you witness such a crime or are the victim of such a crime contact the police on 071 675 6864 and 071 675 6865 (for Primrose Sector One) or 071 675 6866 and 071 675 6867 (for Primrose Sector Two) or 071 675 6868 and 071 675 6869 (for Primrose Sector Three).
