Help Germiston Child Welfare throw a Christmas party to remember

Christmas party aims at giving children some happiness.

At the end of November, Germiston Child Welfare will be hosting a children’s Christmas party for approximately 500 children in foster care and children receiving services from the organisation.

Germiston Child Welfare is a non-profit organisation and relies on the generosity of the community for support and fund-raising, as well as sponsors.

“We are in need of sponsors and donors for this event and to assist us in making this a memorable event for the children concerned,” said Barbara Bouwer, director of Germiston Child Welfare.

“This Christmas party is to give children a feeling of happiness and enjoyment, as well as giving them a good memorable festive season because not every child gets to experience and receive gifts for Christmas.

“The purpose of this party is to bring back the culture of giving out gifts and celebrating the day with family and friends.

“Even though it will not be that day specifically but we want to make this special to them as the children are part of the Child Welfare family.”

Bouwer, added, “We would like to make this day very special and as successful as the Centenary Christmas Party we hosted in 2012.

“We are appealing to corporate companies and the community to get involved and support us in dedicating this special day to our children.

“Most have never, nor will ever, experience a day like this again.”

There are multiple ways to get involved, from taking part in the event, donating a gift, volunteering, food, party packs, money (no amount is too small).

The organisation has a wish list for companies, organisations, families or individuals to select how they would want to get involved, for example, transport, entertainment, toys, stationery and food.

Some of the things which need to be sponsored are:

  • Transport: At least seven to eight buses will be needed.
  • Party items: Shade cloth, gazebos, tables and chairs.
  • Food stalls: Soft drinks: 500 plus, hot dogs: 500 plus, popcorn, candy floss, ice lollies: 500 plus and party packs: 500 plus.
  • Entertainment: Jumping castles (about four or five), clowns, face painting, arts and crafts stall, magician, pony rides, games to win prizes, fishing game (minimum of two), soccer game (minimum of two) and a golf game (minimum of two).
  • Educational supplies: Pens, pencils, sharpeners, books, notepads and rulers.
  • Toys: Soft toys, puzzles, dolls, cars and trucks.

“If there is nothing on the list you can assist with, please consider participating on the day.

“Join us for the fun and experience the pleasure you bring to the lives of the children we work with,” said Bouwer.
