Safety tips from the police

The Elsburg SAPS give safety tips.

The Elsburg SAPS have issued safety tips for community members in the area to follow.

Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS, has informed the GCN that there have been a number of housebreaking incidents in the area.

“The police want to warn residents to enhance their safety awareness,” she added.

These are the safety tips:

  • Keep doors and windows locked.
  •  Ensure that curtains are properly closed at night, as it is easy to see through curtains.
  •  Do not leave your keys under the mat, pot or plant.
  •  Do not leave expensive items lying around.
  •  Install burglar proofing in front of windows, as criminals can break windows to enter a household.
  •  Know your neighbour so they can keep an eye on your place when you are not there.
  •  Look for foreign objects placed outside your premises, meant to signal to criminals which houses are easiest to access.
  •  Look for graphics on your fence and walls as well as tins of paint next to your gate.

Phooko said criminals use this modus operandi to target houses

“They also write ‘CMD’ to show that they will definitely come back,” she added.
