First game loss for Scaw

The Scaw Cricket Club faced the Tembisa Cricket Club at the Scaw Main Oval, in Dinwiddie, on Sunday.

The Easterns Cricket League kicked-off on Sunday.

Germiston’s Scaw Metal Cricket Club faced the Tembisa Cricket Club in their first match of the Promotion League at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

Scaw won the toss and sent the Tembisa club in to bat. Tembisa scored 135 runs before the final wicket fell.

Despite the best efforts from Scaw’s batsmen, they could only manage 113 before the final wicket fell, resulting in Tembisa winning by 22 runs.

“The pick of the bowlers were Scaw’s Trent Murray who took five wickets for 35 runs in eight overs and Jacques Jansen van Vuuren, who bagged three wickets for 27 runs in 10 overs,” said the local club’s captain, Martiens Grobler.

“The batting collapsed in the top order which did not help us at all.

“The only two players who made a difference with the bat were Garreth Hann, who made 38 runs, and Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with 20 runs.”

Trenton Murray was the man of the match with his five wickets.

“We were a bit worried when we had lost six wickets and only had 123 runs on the board, but we picked up and managed to secure a win,” said the Tembisa Cricket Club’s captain, Anthon Mabuza.

“This is our first time playing in Germiston and the facilities, environment and the pitch are good.”

Grobler said it is back to the drawing board for their club.

“We will take this as a good learning curve for us,” he said.
