Two men arrested for rape

The Primrose police arrested two men for two separate cases of rape, in Primrose.

The Primrose police arrested two men, aged 34 and 35, for different cases of rape.

The first man was arrested last Thursday, in the Makause informal settlement.

“It alleged that the suspect grabbed the victim while she was on her way to collect water,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The victim told police, when she opened a case of rape at the Primrose Police Station, that the man dragged her to his shack, where he threatened her and forced her to sleep with him.

The second man was also arrested last Thursday.

“The victim told police that a local taxi driver raped her in an open field near the Delport informal settlement,” Maome said.

She claimed that she was on her way to Tembisa in the taxi when the incident occurred.

The accused left her in the vehicle overnight and, being too scared to run away, she waited in the taxi until he came back in the morning, when he forced himself on her again.

“The victim alleged that after the incident the man brought her to the Primrose Police Station and told her to open a case of rape, but to say she didn’t know who had raped her.

“However, she went against his instructions and told officers that it was he who had raped her,” said Maome.

Both men have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where their cases were postponed for bail applications.
