Novice karatekas to test their skills

The AFCKO Novice Tournament will test the skills of karatekas on September 24.

The African Full Contact Organisation will hold the AFCKO Novice Tournament, at Abram Hlophe Primary School, in Katlehong, on September 24.

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club will host the event.

The tournament, organised by the African Full Contact Organisation, is a great opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talents.

“The tournament gives karatekas the opportunity to gain experience prior to taking part in major tournaments,” said Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi.

“It is an annual event that has proved to be very safe, with participants fighting with full protection, which includes headgear, gloves and shin pads.

“The tournament is aimed at male and female karatekas, from white to yellow belts, who are fit enough to compete.”

All clubs are welcome to take part in this tournament.

Sibisi also said that there is no entry fee.

Podium positions will receive medals, with trophies also up for grabs.

“We will have referees and instructors helping us at the event,” added Sibisi.

“Winners at this tournament will qualify to represent the province at the national tournament, that will be held in Durban, on October 8.”

To participate, or for more information, contact Sibisi on 083 599 5916.
