Kathorus vehicles scrutinised by EMPD officers

Metro police officers were out-and-about stopping unroadworthy vehicles in Katlehong.

The EMPD, in its quest to greatly reduce the number of vehicles posing a danger to road users, re-visited Katlehong, Palm Ridge, Thokoza and Zonkizizwe on the hunt for unroadworthy vehicles, last Tuesday.

During the special Bumper to Bumper operation 250 vehicles were stopped and checked and 81 were found unfit to be operated on public roads.

The operation took place between 6am and 2pm and targeted Sontonga, Yende, K147/M7, Khumalo, Hospital, Kgotso, Celtis and Mercury roads in Katlehong, Thokoza, Phola Park and Zonkizizwe.

Sixty-three vehicles ended up in the EMPD pound in Alberton and 18 were discontinued and their licence discs confiscated and instructed to drive at the maximum speed of 30km/h to places of repair.

The impounded and discontinued vehicles included mini-bus taxis, LDVs, SUVs, four-ton trucks and private sedans.
