Sewage leak fills Sunnyrock yard

A Sunnyrock resident’s yard was left filled with sewage after a manhole outside his home started leaking.

A Sunnyrock resident called the GCN last Monday in an attempt to get answers.

Jim Kelly told the GCN that the manhole outside his home had been leaking raw sewage for four days.

Despite numerous calls to the metro nothing had been done and the sewage had run from the manhole down his driveway and was collecting in his yard.

The GCN sent an urgent query to the metro to find out what had caused the leak and why it had taken so long to repair.

“The leak was caused by a sewer blockage on a municipal sewer pipe but has since been repaired.

“Due to a miscommunication within the metro which resulted in a team not being dispatched, we apologise for inconvenience suffered as a result,” said spokesman for the metro, Themba Gadebe.

When asked if the metro would clean the yard after the hazardous leak, Gadebe said, “The metro officials will clean the yard.”
