A different look at sports

Buhle Park’s Paballo Matlamela promotes five-a-side sporting events in Ekurhuleni.

Germiston soccer clubs are invited to attend the Mayhem Cup soccer tournament that will be held on November 27.

The tournament, hosted by TurfTables Sport, will be contested at the Boksburg East Rand Italian Club.

“TurfTables Sports is a marketing company that organises and manages five-a-side sporting events,” said the founder, Paballo Matlamela.

“We host these events in Ekurhuleni, circulating from one city to another.”

Buhle Park’s Matlamela said hope is one of the main aims behind the formation of the company.

“The main aim and vision of these events is to restore and leave a trail of hope for aspiring soccer players,” he said.

“A big number of players are focused on standard football, but most of them can’t make it, because it is congested.

“Due to that failure they lose hope and give up on their dreams and talents and opt for other jobs.

“TurfTables Sport wants to give aspiring soccer players a platform for them not to lose hope, but to regain it and achieve greatness through our events.”

The 23-year-old youngster, Matlamela, also told the GCN that there is growth potential for the players during the events.

“During the events, we invite scouts, sponsors and different football associations, so there is a lot of opportunity for them to pursue their careers,” he explained.

“Participants at our events get a lot of positive exposure.”

The company is currently focused on five-a-side soccer and athletics events, but hopes to introduce other sporting codes in the near future.

Sporting codes will include netball and rugby.

TurfTables was established in November 2014.

“I have a great passion for sport, which is why I gave birth to such an initiative, and I also want to promote five-a-side sports,” said Matlamela.

“Our upcoming event is aimed at players who are 16 years and older.

“We are looking to have 11 to 20 teams to compete for the Mayhem Cup, so register your team now.

“You don’t have to be a registered team to join, all are welcome, provided there are 10 members per team.”
