Man beaten with iron rod

A man was recently assaulted with an iron rod while on his way home from Sunnyridge.

After recently stopping to pick up a few things from a Sunnyridge filling station a man headed home for the evening.

On his way home he realised he was being followed.

“He stopped and asked the man why he was following him.

“The accused allegedly claimed that the victim had followed him to work that morning,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

It was then that the suspect produced an iron rod and hit the victim on the head.

“The man suffered serious injuries to his head,” Maome said.

Using a description given by the victim, the police were able to trace the 52-year-old accused and he was arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
