Metro’s libraries now have eBooks

The metro now has eBooks on offer at its libraries.

The days of walking into a library to borrow a book are now a thing of the past for Ekurhuleni library users.

Users can now use advanced technology to borrow books online.

An eBook is an electronic version of a printed book, which can be borrowed by library users electronically for a period of two weeks.

The system will automatically retrieve it thereafter for other users to access it.

eBooks are available to all registered library users and can be downloaded for free by punching in your library membership number after typing in the link https://gauteng.lib.overdrive.com

“The metro’s ultimate purpose for this initiative is to encourage the culture of reading among our citizens and to provide convenient access to books at any given time without having to walk into the library,” said the metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.

“Plans are in place to roll out an educational awareness campaign across the metro to assist library users and librarians to become familiar with using the online site.”
