Tight race between ANC and DA in metro so far

Votes in the local government elections are currently being counted in Germiston and across the country.

Voters have done their duty and made their marks and now the country waits for the final results of the 2016 local government elections.

In Ekurhuleni, it is currently a tight contest between the ANC and the DA.

The leading party currently in the metro is the ANC, with 44.09 per cent of the support (306 155 votes), followed closely by the DA with 42.26 per cent of the support (293 449 votes). In third place is the EFF with 8.39 per cent of the support (58 247 votes).

In Germiston, Ward 20, the DA is leading with 87.77 per cent. The party is followed by the ANC on 8.75 per cent and the EFF on 2.12 per cent.

Ward 21 sees the ANC out in front with 55.9 per cent, followed by the EFF on 30.61 per cent and the DA on 7.5 per cent.

In Ward 35, the ANC has 47.81 per cent, the DA 26.1 per cent. The EFF is on 19.86 per cent.

Ward 36 currently has the DA on 77.41 per cent; the ANC on 14.45 per cent and the EFF on 4.62 per cent.

Ward 39 has the DA leading with 83.33 per cent, followed by the ANC on 9.31 per cent and the EFF on 3.56 per cent.

In Ward 40 the ANC has 55.63 per cent, the DA 20.72 per cent and the EFF 17.85 per cent of the vote.

Ward 50 has the ANC leading with 81.38 per cent, followed by the EFF on 9.54 per cent and the DA on 5.23 per cent.

Ward 51 has no results as yet.

Ward 93 sees the ANC out in front on 52.62 per cent, followed by the EFF on 26.66 and the UDM on 9.38 per cent.

In Gauteng as a whole, the ANC is leading with 43.24 per cent, followed closely by the DA on 42.12 per cent and then the EFF on 9.32 per cent.
