Newly established residents association calls for participation

The newly formed LamDel Residents Association to hold its inaugural AGM

A number of issues have been upsetting the residents of Delville, Lambton, Parkhill Gardens, Denlee, Webber, Klippoortje, Hazeldene and Hazelpark, recently.

These range from service delivery to the establishment of shack farming, and there seems to be no consistency when the public report matters to the metro.

Upon moving into the area, Lornette Joseph, the former chairman of the I Love Kensington Association (ILKA) and the Woodmere Residents Association, couldn’t believe how people were being shunted from one place to another by the municipality, and that there seemed to be no end to the frustrations.

“There is one street in Delville which has not had street lights for two years; the problem is reported, but nothing gets done,” said Lornette.

It was at the Delville Sector Three CPF meeting that Lornette discovered that there is no residents’ association in the area.

A request was made for her to establish one, not only for the Delville Sector Three area, but also for Lambton Klip Sector Four.

Lornette put together a team representing both areas and they have been working hard on a constitution and the formal establishment of a registered residents’ association; which has been called the LamDel Residents Association.

“A residents association is there to assist with things that the council is not doing or getting to; it puts pressure where it is needed; it reports not only faults and problems to council, but also what the area needs put into the metro’s IDP plan; it is there to assist the councillors and council; to be the body to which the council reports back, and it’s in place to bring about active citizenship, where the locals can get involved in their area,” Lornette said.

The working group for the LamDel Residents Association has now finished the constitution and is hereby giving notice to all residents who fall within the areas above that a formal AGM will take place on August 6, at 9am (doors open at 8.30am).

The meeting will take place in the hall at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, on Webber Road, in Lambton.

At the AGM, the chairman for the LamDel Residents Association will be voted for, as well as the members of the exco.

For a copy of the constitution, or a membership form, or for more information, contact Lornette on 063 493 1820, or email to info@lamdel.org.za.

A copy of the constitution can also be found on the association’s Facebook page, Proudly LamDel.

“We are urging all residents to please come along, we will make a formal presentation, so that people understand what is happening; residents can stand up to be part of the exco and can nominate and vote for members of the exco and the chairman, as well as pay their subscriptions on the day if they don’t do it beforehand.

“Only members who pay will be entitled to vote on the day,” Lornette said.

  • Denlee
  • Delville
  • Hazeldene
