Community welcomes foundation’s help

The Tzu-Chi Foundation feeds the community through an annual winter relief campaign.

The Buddhist compassion relief Tzu-Chi Foundation, South Africa, hosted its annual food handover, which forms part of their winter relief efforts.

The handover took place last Sunday.

Delighted residents from the Marathon, Makause and Delport informal settlements received bags of rice, scarves, ear-muffs and a selection of other items from the foundation.

It is estimated 3 000 families, who were identified for the handover by volunteers, benefited from the event which was held across the road from the Primrose Police Station in Poppy Street.

The organisation, which has over 10 million volunteers globally, is an international NGO and helps the needy throughout the world.

Before the handover began, volunteers and community members prayed together and performed an official handover ceremony.

Residents, who arrived at the event with wheelbarrows, were grateful for the donations from the foundation.
