Fitness and stamina tested

Athletes gathered at Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA)’s cross-country league meeting held at the Dorothy Nyembe Park on July 16.

Germiston-based Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted another instalment of the cross-country league, at the Dorothy Nyembe Park, in Soweto, on July 16.

“This was the second-last league meeting of the 2016 cross-country season,” said CGA’s Mbalenhle Ngema.

“Compliments on a great choice of venue was the common sentiment expressed by athletes.

“As we head towards the end of the season, the province is more adamant that this year’s provincial championships will be on fire.”

Ngema also identified athletes producing impressive results.

“Cornelia Joubert (Boxer AC), Keneilwe Sesing (KPMG RC) and Namakwa Nkhasi, who now runs for Nedbank RC, are consistent in their performances and are also among the top performing athletes,” she said.

Men and women’s 10km event results:

Men:

  • Namakwa Nkhasi (Nedbank RC) finished first in 30 minutes and 48 seconds.
  • Xolisa Tyali (Nedbank RC) finished second in 31 minutes and 49 seconds.
  • Lucky Mohale (Boxer AC) finished third in 32 minutes and 45 seconds.

Women:

  • Cornelia Joubert (Boxer AC) finished first in 36 minutes and 47 seconds.
  • Keneilwe Sesing (KPMG RC) finished second in 38 minutes and 39 seconds.
  • Farida Zwane (Cool Running) finished third in 38 minutes and 40 seconds.

“The last league meeting will be held in Alberton, on Saturday, July 30,” said Ngema.

“That will be followed by the provincial championships, to be held at the Boksburg Stadium, on August 13.”
