Local musician aiming to reach new heights

Michael Godwe aims to make it big in his musical career by becoming an independent hip-hop artist.

Michael Godwe (22), a Delville resident, aspires to be an independent hip-hop artist in his near future.

He often performs at local bars and small events in Germiston, but hopes to fulfil his dream of being able to perform at the Germiston Stadium one day.

“I would love to fill out the Germiston Stadium and to perform for all the local residents, because Germiston is my home, I grew up here,” Michael said.

Michael went to Colin Mann Primary School and matriculated from Germiston High in 2012.

He was born in Zambia, but his family moved to South Africa when he was two years old and he currently lives with his two sisters in Delville.

After Michael matriculated, he worked at Pick n Pay and did a few other small jobs, but his passion for music consumed him.

Along with his manager, Hillary Nkala they started working on his music and performances.

Michael’s manager, Hillary has known him since he was young and their love for football and music brought them together and created a brotherly bond.

From a young age, Michael expressed his love for music by writing poetic lyrics and he still writes his own songs today by expressing his emotions and putting a little of himself in every song he writes.

Michael loves the flow of music and being able to put his thoughts and feelings into one song. This was the inspiration he needed to start out as a hip-hop artist.

His main inspiration and influence comes from his friends, who he sometimes performs and collaborates with.

Working hard and keeping his feet firmly on the ground motivates Michael every day to become the established and independent artist he aims to be in the next few years.

“Michael is going to be a big hip-hop artist in the upcoming years, so enjoy him while he is still on the ground,” Hillary said.

“Support Michael, a hard-working and aspirant upcoming artist, by coming to his shows to see what type of music he brings to the table.”
