Couple hijacked in driveway

Swift police work led to the recovery of a couple’s hijacked vehicle.

A couple sitting in their vehicle outside the man’s Buhle Park Phase Three home, last Friday, became the victims of hijackers at about 10.45pm.

While sitting in the car they were allegedly approached by two men, carrying firearms.

They pointed their firearms at the couple and ordered them to get out of the vehicle.

“They then robbed the couple of their two cellphones and made off in the couple’s vehicle, a maroon Mazda 323, valued at R25 000,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

The victims contacted the SAPS and the vehicle was later tracked to a house in Ivory Park Extension 15, in Tembisa, in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

“The police received information from tracking company personnel and, upon arrival at the address given, they found a 38-year-old man inside the vehicle, removing the speakers,” said Phooko.

“The man was arrested and detained at the Ivory Park Police Station.

“He is due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates Court soon, on a charge of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.”
