1. Four dead, 11 injured when fleeing criminals crash into taxi
Four people died and 11 others sustained serious to moderate injuries after a taxi overturned on the N3 northbound, opposite the PPC cement factory in Germiston, last Monday. According to Wilfred Kgasago, the spokesman for the EMPD, the taxi was hit by a vehicle which was fleeing from police on the highway.
2. Roads blocked by burning rubbish, tyres as residents protest
Protestors took to the streets surrounding the Makause informal settlement in Primrose, recently, burning tyres and rubbish. Stanley, Pretoria, Shamrock and Main Reef roads, around the settlement, were blocked off by rocks and piles of burning rubbish.
3. Update: Criminals escape after horror crash
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) personnel rushed to the scene of a collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle, on the N3 northbound, near the Geldenhuys interchange, last Monday. “It is believed that there was a high-speed chase between the driver of the white Mercedes-Benz and the police, whereby the sedan crashed into the back of the taxi full of passengers. The taxi driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled, landing on its roof,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.
A woman was allegedly beaten by her 34-year-old boyfriend after he accused of cheating, recently. “The victim told police that she was working at a tuckshop in the Makause informal settlement when her boyfriend came to borrow money,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
