Three nabbed for business robbery

Local security guard aids police in arrest of three men.

While at work at a shop in Rietfontein Road, on June 20, a woman was approached by three men who claimed they wanted to buy Russians and chips.

The men, aged between 29 and 37, allegedly paid for their order with a R50 note and when the shop assistant opened the till to get change the men threatened her and began to grab money from the till.

“The woman was able to sneak into the backroom (while the men were distracted) where her manager was sitting,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The manager approached the men, who were still taking money from the till.

“When they saw her the suspects ran.”

A local security officer noticed the men running and after calling the police chased after the suspects.

“The security guard was able to corner one of the suspects and handed him over to the Primrose police,” Maome said.

The remaining suspects were tracked down by police and were arrested later that day.

All three men appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on business robbery charges.
