Unlucky loss for Germiston City

Football fanatics witnessed an action-packed fixture between Germiston City Football Club and Olympic Football Club’s Super League sides at the Germiston City Sports Club on Saturday.

Germiston City Football Club’s super league side played the second game of the second round of the ELFA Super League against Olympia FC, a team they had beaten in a previous match 4-0.

It was a home game for Germiston at the Germiston City Sports Club on Saturday.

Germiston had most of the play in the opening 20 minutes without reward, with Ekwemmuo Chinadu, playing in his final game for the local team, coming close and hitting the side netting for the home side.

A foul just outside the big box by Germiston allowed Olympia to score the first goal of the day against the run of play.

Germiston persisted, however, taking the game to Olympia with Piso Muso and Tsittetso Molemela combining well in the midfield to allow Lebogang Chokoe to score from an acute angle down the left.

A lapse of concentration by Germiston’s defense led to them giving away a foul just outside the area.

The dubious foul allowed Olympia to score again from a set piece.

The match saw a half-time score 1-2 in the opponents favour.

“Try as they could, Germiston could not break down Olympia’s resilient defense and the match deteriorated in a farce mainly caused through some mediocre refereeing,” said the local team’s chairman, Peter Oliver.

“No fewer than eight yellow cards were shown, as well as an unspectacular exit from Chinadu when he was sent off for a second yellow offence.

“Olympia were shown a red card and Germiston’s Comfort Molebela a straight red for questioning the referee’s decision.”

In retrospect the game overall was an entertaining match between the two teams.

Final score 2-1 to Olympia.

Prior to the game, Germiston and Olympia’s super league reserves also had a fixture.

City’s reserves lost 1-0.
