Protestors took to the streets surrounding the Makause informal settlement in Primrose, on Wednesday morning, burning tyres and rubbish.
Stanley, Pretoria, Shamrock and Main Reef roads, around the settlement, were blocked off by rocks and piles of burning rubbish.
EMPD officers stationed themselves at all the intersections to warn motorists and redirect traffic away from the area.
WO Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the communications officer for the Ekurhuleni West SAPS cluster said, “By the look of things, the protest is service delivery related.
“From what we understand, the municipality promised them houses and this has not been delivered.”
WO Nhlabathi added that no acts of violence had been reported and there had been no injuries.
The protest action started at about 3am.
Currently there is a strong EMPD and SAPS presence in the area.
