Man found with property taken in Rigel Street robbery

Stolen cellphone leads police to 42-year-old man, who claims he found it next to the N12 highway.

A 42-year-old man was arrested for possession of property stolen during an armed robbery and attempted murder in Rigel Street.

Police have not given many details about the incident that took place on Monday, June 13, in Symhurst.

The victim’s family told police that they had managed to track the cellphone taken in the robbery.

“The signal led police to a forest next to the N12 freeway,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Officers travelled to the location and found a man in possession of a bag containing a number of documents belonging to the victim, including the cellphone.

“During questioning the suspect alleged that he had picked up the bag from the side of the N12,” said Maome.

He was arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station, and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
