Iconic rock band to take to the stage

Enjoy an evening of great rock with Just Jinjer live at the Lyric Theatre.

Hot on the heels of their new album “Everything Since Then”, Mix 93.8 FM is bringing Just Jinjer to the Lyric at Gold Reef City.

They will be performing their “Greatest Hits Unplugged” on June 17.

A band that needs no real introduction, Just Jinjer is made up of the enigmatic Ard Matthews on vocals and guitar, Denholm Harding on bass guitar, and Brent Harris on drums.

The original trio has been part of Just Jinjer’s solid foundation since the band’s inception in 1996.

As one of the most prolific rock outfits to ever emerge from South Africa, Just Jinjer have successfully made their mark both nationally and internationally and performed on some of the world’s largest stages.

They have supported and shared the bill with many international stars such as U2, Counting Crows, Def Leppard, INXS, Maroon 5, One Republic, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Strokes, and many more.

Having sold a quarter of a million albums to date, Just Jinjer have many devotees all over the world, but they couldn’t be more proudly South African.

“Just Jinjer have a massive fan base in Johannesburg and we are delighted to host them at the Lyric.

“Music lovers will have the opportunity to experience the group’s inspirational showmanship, profound lyrics and uplifting melodies first-hand,” said Gareth Kaschula, Gold Reef City’s marketing manager.

While they certainly make music for the soul, Just Jinjer make music for the mind too, often prompting music lovers to ponder the meaning of their heartfelt lyrics.

Most notably the band has a strong social conscience, performing at events like the Nelson Mandela 46664 Concert of 2009 in Johannesburg with The Goo Goo Dolls, Annie Lennox, Razorlight, Ludacris, Corrinne Bailey Rae, Peter Gabriel, Live and Angélique Kidjo.

Their soulful sounds reverberate with genuine emotion whether they are playing for 25 000 people along with a 600-piece symphonic orchestra, a choir, and marching band or just performing for an intimate crowd.

The upcoming show is sponsored by Mix 93.8 FM, a local radio station that has been growing strong and serving the community for the past seven years.

“Supporting local music is our passion and we are thrilled to be part of the Just Jinjer Unplugged live at Gold Reef City,” said station manager Abigail Milosevich

Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
