Tekkie Tax Day campaign a success

Germiston Child Welfare was overwhelmed by the community and local business’ support of their 2016 Tekkie Tax Day campaign.

“We can’t express our appreciation for every individual, company, school and crèche that came out in support of our 2016 Tekkie Tax campaign.”

These were the words of Barbara Bouwer, the director of Germiston Child Welfare, after last Friday’s Tekkie Tax Day.

It is estimated that through the community’s support 900 Tekkie Tax shoelaces and more than 4 000 Tekkie Tax stickers were sold and a portion of these funds will go to child welfare.

“The funds raised through the campaign will be used to purchase baby milk and baby necessities, as well as for project specific needs such as much-needed maintenance on some of the welfare vehicles,” said Bouwer.

Some of the companies, organisations and schools involved in the project were;

q Run/Walk for Life – Edenvale held a morning walk last Friday in support of Tekkie Tax day, which saw more than 50 people walking between 4km and 10km their Tekkie Tax laces.

“Thank you to Belinda Forman and Dolores Gilmour for organising the initiative,” said Bouwer.

  •  Air France KLM Martin Air Cargo’s Cheri Heath and team got involved on the day.
  •  The team from Stefanutti Stocks not only supported Tekkie Tax day but also collected clothes and groceries which they donated to Germiston Child Welfare.
  •  Life Healthcare Bedford Gardens Hospital held a ward competition to see which ward had the most spirit and best support for Tekkie Tax Day.

“A special thanks to Janene De Beer for this creative idea,” said Bouwer.

  •  Pureau Fresh Water got involved on the day.
  •  Colin Mann Primary School purchased 840 stickers for all the pupils at the school. This was the highest number of stickers purchased.

“To everyone, big and small, young and old who supported us, thank you.

“There are many others who joined in the fun and we would love you to send us your photos if you haven’t done so yet so we can put together a Tekkie Tax 2016 photo album,” said Bouwer.
