Relief for drought-stricken community

AfriForum and PRAC, with the help of local school children, have donated hundreds of litres of water to the people of Senekal.

Many communities across the country are still in the grip of a drought.

Some of the towns and communities hardest hit by the drought are still reliant on water donations.

In an effort to stop animals and people alike from dying of dehydration and starvation, the Primrose branch of AfriForum, together with Primrose Residents Against Crime (PRAC), recently appealed to local schools to donate bottles of water to be sent to Senekal.

Laerskool Die President and Laerskool Oosterkruin heeded the call and donated hundreds of litres of water to the project.

Wico Swanepoel, provincial co-ordinator for AfriForum, interacted with the children of each school, explaining how important their contribution is.

“We decided to support the Senekal community as we have identified them as the community hardest hit by the drought at this stage,” he said.
