Join the sector street groups

The Primrose CPF wants the community of Primrose to take responsibility for their own safety.

For the past two weeks the Primrose Sector Two patrollers, members of the SAPS and the Primrose Youth Desk, have been conducting door-to-door campaigns in the area.

They handed out pamphlets and spoke to people in the streets who have been targeted by criminals.

“There has been some positive response with new residents joining the street groups, but there were also residents who said they are not interested, they do not need to be involved as they have insurance,” said Wendy Morgan, chairman of the Primrose CPF.

Morgan listed the following as important reasons to join the street groups:

  • You get to know your neighbours.
  • You become aware of the crime trends and what to look out for.
  • You can join the volunteer patrollers or contribute donations towards the radio repeater charges or patrollers’ petrol costs.

“You may have insurance, but do you realise that when you have a claim your premium could increase and it affects the insurance premiums for the area, and thus affects all residents in Primrose, as the area falls into a higher risk area,” Morgan said.

She added that all residents need to take responsibility for their own safety and for those around them.

“So when you are asked by members of the police or our volunteer patrollers to park a vehicle inside the yard, or keep your gates closed, remember they are not only requesting this for your benefit but for the benefit of everyone in Primrose.

“Easy targets also encourage the criminal element to come into the area, because a car parked on the pavement or gates left open just makes their jobs easier.

“So please be considerate of others – we all want to be safe and have a safe community. Join a street group or become a volunteer CPF patroller,” Morgan said.
