Germiston proves they have what it takes

The past weekend was a good one for the teams from Germiston City Football Club.

After disappointing defeats to Benoni Northerns and Boksburg in the last two super league games, Germiston City FC needed to win the game against Corinthians on Saturday to put their league season back on track.

Playing away at Senderwood is never easy and the Germiston side came out to prove their worthy status in the super league.

With 15 minutes gone and Germiston playing better football, Tsiiteso Molemela latched onto a rebounded ball and drove a well-directed shot between two Corinthian defenders, beating the keeper to his left.

Germiston continued to put pressure on Corinthians but this resulted in them leaving their own goalkeeper, Benjie Kuanda, exposed at times.

Kuanda, who had to play two games because of an injury to reserve keeper Blu Dlamini, saved well to keep Germiston in the lead at half-time.

The second half saw Germiston consolidate and maintain pressure on the luckless Corinthians.

After a good spell of play, Germiston forced a corner and Molemela took it and found the head of birthday boy Dembi Mayimela to put Germiston ahead 2-0.

Germiston sealed Corinthians fate with a well-taken goal by Piso Muso for Germiston to win 3-0.

The second team had Benjie Kaunda to thank for their 0-0 draw with Corinthians reserve side after a succession of good saves and a penalty save.

This leaves the Germiston reserve side undefeated in their last four games.

The Germiston third side kept their unbeaten record with a 1-1 draw with Olympia A.

All in all it was a good week for Germiston City Football Club.

The club takes on Edenvale this Saturday in a home match.
