The brawl for it all

Golden Gloves, African Ring and Emperors Palace hosted the hard-hitting boxing extravaganza “Brawl for it All”.

It was an explosive Sunday at the Palace of Dreams when Golden Gloves, African Ring and Emperors Palace presented “Brawl for it All”.

The seven fight event had both young and old on the edge of their seats, with five of the fights ending in technical knock-outs (TKO).

The main event saw Kevin Lerena challenge Johnny Muller in the WBA Pan Africa/SA Cruiserweight Championship 12-round bout.

This grudge match was one for the history books with both men sure they would be crowned the victor.

But there can only be one winner and after nine gruelling rounds, that saw both men give their all, it was Lerena who managed to get his opponent off the back foot.

He unleashed an attack of powerful jabs that knocked Muller to the ground; he was named the winner by TKO in the 30th second of the tenth round to a huge cheer from his supporters.

Other notable fights on the day were the bantamweight match-up between local fighter Ronnie Chiloane and Ronald Malindi and the mini flyweight fight between Deejay Kriel and Ayanda Dulani.

In the bantamweight bout a confident Malindi had his skills tested as Chiloane maintained a powerful presence throughout the fight.

Confidence paid off, however, when Malindi was named the winner by majority judges’ decision.

The fight was scored 39/37 by two judges and 38/38 by the final judge.

The mini flyweight bout saw Kriel and Dulani evenly matched throughout the six rounds, neither man backing down.

The match was ruled a draw when the judges scored it 57/57, 58/56 and 56/58.

Other results on the day’s fight-card:

  •  Junior middleweight: John Bobape won his match against Joseph Ndou by TKO two minutes and 15 seconds into the first round.
  •  Junior welterweight: Sterling Shaw won his fight against Tumi Nakedi by TKO one minute and 42 seconds into the fourth and final round.
  •  Junior lightweight: Lucky Mongebane won his match against Sipheshle Malinga by TKO two minutes and 50 seconds into the first round.
