Helping where it is needed most

Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose and the community open their hearts to family.

“I was so overwhelmed by the help of Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose and the community.”

These were the words of an emotional Marina Naudé, at her home in Rigel Street, Primrose, on Thursday.

Marina’s home was almost destroyed in a fire on February 24 (GCN, March 4) and is currently being refurbished.

Members of Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose visited the home after successfully completing the first stage of the project – the immediate outreach.

They will now wait for the house to be finished before helping Marina move back in.

“We’ll be involved when the house is ready and make sure Marina’s move home goes smoothly,” said chairman of Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose Jenny Araujo.

“There will be lots to do when the time comes, like hanging curtains, moving in furniture and much more.”

Helpende Hand got involved in helping Marina after Marina’s friend Alice du Toit suggested she contact them.

This was the first project in which the newly formed Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose branch got involved.

Jenny told the GCN that the branch, as well as countless community members, made sure the occupants of the house, namely, Marina, Debbie, Catrina and Seth (4) Childs and Natasha Clark were all taken care of and safe.

“As a branch we found out that the family was in need of clothing, as everything had either been destroyed or smelt so of smoke that it couldn’t be worn,” said Jenny.

“We made sure that everyone had something to wear.

“The community made sure the children had everything they needed for school, as well as other things as well.”

The branch also donated furniture, blankets and curtains for the house.

Jenny added: “The community of Primrose is such an example to people.

“We came in to helped and walked away learning so much about kindness from people.”

Marina told the GCN that she is eternally thankful to both Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose and the Primrose community.

“I can’t thank everyone enough,” she said.

Marina has lived in the house for years.

“It was my parents’ home and then passed to me upon their death,” she said.

“My husband Okkie and I then lived here for 15 years, until he passed away in a robbery at home in 2012.

“Maybe God has a reason for all this to happen, and I won’t lose faith.”

Marina is excited that work has begun on the house and that she will, hopefully, be able to move back in sometime in the near future.

“We are currently trying to keep everything as normal as possible and we are all safe,” she said.

She commended Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose on their professional and kind attitude.

“We are still depending on everyone’s prayers, as prayers are so important these days,” Marina said.

“Thanks to this, although you may feel like everything is falling apart, you can see your way through.”

Solidariteit Helpende Hand Primrose is always in need of more members to help them with their work in the community.
