Some Marlands roads un-drivable – say residents

Residents want potholes and faulty street lights in Marlands repaired.

The Germiston City News received a call from a Marlands resident, who is at her wits end.

“The roads in Marlands are full of potholes and it is becoming more and more difficult to drive in the area, as you risk damaging your car and/or tyres,” said the resident, who does not wish to be named.

The potholes in Marlands have become so bad that residents claim it is difficult to drive.

She also claimed that several streets in the area have faulty street lights which, she believes, have led to a rise in the theft of gate motors in the area.

The GCN contacted the Primrose police to find out if they have noted an increase in gate motor theft in the area.

Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, commented that the police were not aware of an increase in this type of crime in the area.

The GCN also contacted the metro and Ward 21 councillor Tania Campbell for comment on the condition of the roads and street lights in the area.

“The complaints have been sent to the roads department,” said Campbell.

“The relevant departments have put the matters on their rosters; unfortunately I cannot say when this will be attended to as this is not the only complaint on their rosters.”

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro commented: “The reported faulty street lights have been fixed and are in a working condition.

“A team has been sent to patch the potholes in the area.”
