Alleged copper cable theif nabbed by police

Detectives from the Primrose Police Station recently arrested a man for the possession of suspected stolen property at a local scrapyard.

Last Wednesday a 29-year-old man was arrested by detectives from the Primrose Police Station and charged with the possession of suspected stolen copper cables.

It is claimed that the copper cables were stolen from Cactus Road.

“The arrest was made while detectives were at a local scrapyard investigating the theft of copper pipes stolen from Rietfontein Road,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

It is alleged that the accused entered the scrapyard carrying a heavy box full of copper cables.

“Detectives waited for the man to have the box weighed and to receive the money before they approached him and asked for proof of ownership,” Maome said.

The man ran from the detectives but was cornered and arrested.

He was detained at the Primrose Police Station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
