The Theatre of Marcellus will play host to the World poker Tour National Championships this April.

Poker enthusiasts will have an opportunity to up the ante for the next edition of World Poker Tour National Championship (WPT), hosted at Emperors Palace for the fourth time.

From April 8 to 17 the Theatre of Marcellus will be alive with adrenaline and all the poker action that is synonymous with the largest poker series on the continent.

During 10 days of intense tournament action, a field of the usual mix of professional poker players and general poker enthusiasts, along with defending champion Wesley Wiegand, will take to the table to win a share of the impressive prize pool of more than R10-million.

With the official satellite tournaments already taking place, players who enter have an opportunity to win a seat in the Main Event and the High Roller.

“Emperors Palace is honoured to continue our long association with high-stakes poker tournaments, and we are gratified with the benefits of hosting events that positively affect the tourism industry in South Africa.

“A large focus, however, will always be to host tournaments for our local players and the WPT National Poker Championship does just that.

“This tournament will launch players into the international poker event scheduled for November this year,” said Peermont chief operating officer for gaming, Bob Yearham.
