Twelve hours of music and fun

Don’t miss the 12-hour Hawaiian experience with DJ Oskido and EMTee.

The Easter holidays are getting off to a rocking start with a 12-hour outdoor party, Rock Da Shades Carnival Gardens, on the Festival Lawns at Carnival City, on March 20.

With the next day, a public holiday, Rock Da Shades Carnival Gardens will feature the very best in local house music, hip hop, Kwaito and Afro pop talent.

Some 12 000 revellers are expected to show up to catch top local DJs on the decks.

In the mix for the stomping party are DJs Oskido, Lulo Café, Lerato Kganyago, Ms Cosmo and Mobi Dixon, Vetkuk and Mahoota, DJ Warras, DJ Shimza, Rock da Shades spin-masters and other local DJs.

There will also be a special performance by the multiple-award winning hip hop artist EMTee.

He stunned the country with his single, “Roll Up”, which has turned into a national anthem and enjoyed top positions on South African music charts.

DJ Oskido needs little introduction to South African house music fans, having been immersed in the local club scene since 1990.

He is one of the pioneering artists to popularise the Kwaito genre of music outside the townships of South Africa and has released several albums, including the popular Oskido’s Church Grooves series.

He was among the first artists to add vocals to the slow tempo Kwaito house beats that went on to become popular in South Africa and beyond.

His contribution to the development of music in South Africa earned him a Special Recognition Award at the 2012 Channel O Music Video Awards.

“To have one of South Africa’s foremost mix masters and a top hip hop artist performing at our Rock Da Shades event is a coup for Carnival City.

“With these and other top notch DJs on the decks creating the best dance floor memories, partygoers are in for a spectacular evening,” said Matthew Cook, the events and entertainment manager at Carnival City.

“Rock Da Shades Entertainment is proud to host this music-driven experience in celebration of South African’s rich cultural diversity, at Carnival City’s Festival Lawns.

“The theme for Rock Da Shades Carnival Gardens is ‘Hawaiian’, which inspires a unique party experience for the fans, with bright colours and a vibrant atmosphere,” said Gregory Hlatshwayo, Rock Da Shades event organiser.
