Makause residents take to the streets in service delivery protest

Protesters burn tyres and stone vehicles before marching to the Germiston civic centre.

Residents of the Makause informal settlement have converged on the Germiston civic centre in a service delivery protest.

The marchers plan to handover a memorandum regarding the lack of housing and service delivery faced by residents.

According to Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police there are more than 10 000 residents involved in the protest.

Earlier this morning the protesters burnt tyres and threw stones at passing motorists outside the informal settlement.

At the moment the gathering remains peaceful, with the SAPS and EMPD on scene.
