Donate water and make a difference

Primrose Sector Three has taken up the challenge and is collecting water for drought-stricken areas.

Drought and a water crisis are gripping large parts of the country.

In order to try to help to alleviate people’s hardships the Primrose Sector Three Crime Forum has joined forces with Pick n Pay Primrose, to help to boost the relief efforts being made for many drought-stricken areas around South Africa.

The Crime Forum committee, headed by Max Katz, together with project leader Janet Gerretsen, has challenged local street groups through their street leaders, to collect water from street members’ houses.

Already over 6 200 litres of water have been sent to the Pick n Pay depot in Long Meadow, in Edenvale.

Pick n Pay, in conjunction with Operation Hydrate, Water Shortage SA and AgriSA, distribute the water to drought-stricken areas, and the race is on between the streets to see who can donate the most water.

Chris Ndlovu, the store manager of Pick n Pay Primrose, said: “Pick n Pay works with various organisations who are helping drought-stricken communities.

“We are happy to work with the sector to build up water supplies, and these are then loaded ontoour trucks and sent to our distribution depot, from where they are then sent to the areas in need.”

“Lieut-Col Albertina Vesi, the Primrose SAPS station commander and her staff, are also avidly collecting, so we are now challenging businesses and their staff to join our campaign to donate either clean bottled tap water (marked TW for tap water) which will be used for animals and washing, or sealed commercial bottled water for drinking,” said Max.

“We are also asking people to donate clean, empty water bottles with their caps on, packed in black plastic bags.

“These can be dropped off at Pick n Pay Primrose, as we have people with boreholes in the area who are willing to fill them.”

“We are so proud of our community, thanks and well done Primrose Sector Three.

“Let’s keep it going.

“We urge other CPF groups and community organisations to take up the challenge and donate water today,” said Max.
