Music to raise funds for maths

Maths our World, a non-profit organisation, will host a fund-raising event on May 7, to help disadvantaged children.

Maths our World, a non-profit organisation, will host a fund-raising event on May 7, at Germiston Lake.

The purpose of this event is to raise money and to get funding to assist disadvantaged children with mathematics.

“It is extremely difficult to get funding for non-profit projects, that is why we decided to launch this fund-raising event,” said Tom Shupikai, from Maths our World.

Artists from the Joyous Celebration organisation will perform during the event, to raise funds for the students.

“We want to participate and contribute to this event, so that we can give back to the community as artists,” said Mkhululi Bhebhe, from Joyous Celebration.

Other artists who will also perform during the day include Nobathembu Mabeka, Sphumelele Mbambo and Sbunoah Mthembu.

Maths our World recently started working with Ponego Secondary School, in Katlehong, with the aim of helping Grade Eight students with mathematics.

“The transition from primary school to Grade Eight is the most difficult change that children have to go through,” said Tom.

“That is why we decided to specifically help Grade Eights with mathematics.”

The fund-raising project will be a family event, with loads of fun activities for the children, so make sure you bring along your camping chairs and anything else to ensure that you and your family are comfortable for the whole day.

Maths our World urge parents to participate and buy tickets for the fund-raising event and also to encourage people to partner with them.

“Most parents pay for extra maths classes, but what about the parents who cannot afford it?

“That is why we chose Grade Eight students who urgently need extra maths classes as our main beneficiaries for this event,” said Tom.

Maths our World thanks the mayor and executive office for helping them to pay for the venue where the event will be held and also all the artists from Joyous Celebration who agreed to perform free of charge for the whole day.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at any Checkers and Shoprite stores, or at Computicket.

The event will commence at noon on May 7, at Germiston Lake.
