The GCN recently received a complaint from an Elsburg resident, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The resident told the GCN that she recently went to the Elsburg Clinic for a blood pressure check-up as she does not have transport to go to a hospital.
The nurses helped her friend, but they showed her away and told her to go to a hospital for medical treatment as they could not assist her at the clinic.
The GCN contacted the metro to enquire about the service customers are receiving at the Elsburg Clinic.
The metro confirmed that the resident is known to staff of the Elsburg Clinic, where she has consulted nursing personnel and a medical officer.
Due to the nature of her condition and the referral by the medical officer, the complainant needs to attend a hospital, as her condition is outside the scope of the primary health care level.
Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, responded with the following statement:
“The complainant urgently needs treatment that is offered only at a hospital and not at the Elsburg Clinic.”
