While driving along Mackenzie Road, in Simmerfield, a motorist noticed a man trying to climb over a wall into one of the properties.
He stopped his vehicle to confront the man, but before he was able to nab him the accused ran away.
“The resident chased after the man and was able to corner him and officers were called to the scene,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.
Officers searched the man and found a plastic bag containing a screwdriver, cable cutters and a shifting spanner.
“We are experiencing a lot of housebreakings in the Simmerfield area and thank the resident for assisting in this arrest,” said Maome.
The 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with the possession of housebreaking implements.
