Man arrested for attempted hijacking

Primrose CPF assist Primrose police in the arrest of a would-be hijacker.

A 26-year-old man was recently arrested and charged with attempted hijacking.

The arrest was made after members of the Primrose CPF cornered the suspect after he reportedly fled the scene of the crime.

“It was reported that a man and his wife were sitting in their car near a restaurant in Rietfontein Road, when they were approached by three men.

“One of the men hit the victim in the face with a brick and demanded his keys,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The terrified screams of the victim’s wife caught the attention of three Primrose CPF members, who were eating in the restaurant.

“When the suspects saw the patrollers they ran away leaving even their own vehicle behind,” said Maome.

The patrollers gave chase and cornered one of the men.

The Primrose police were called to the scene and the man was arrested.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
