Paramedics resuscitate three-year-old drowning victim

A young boy is in a critical condition after falling into a swimming pool.

Netcare 911 paramedics raced to the scene of a drowning in Dinwiddie this morning (February 6) at 10.50am.

“Reports from the scene indicated that a three-year-old boy was found floating in a private swimming pool.

“Exact details as to the events leading up to him falling in will remain a subject for police investigation,” said Chris Botha, media liaison officer at Netcare 911.

The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic and his team arrived at the scene and found the child totally unresponsive.

The medical team immediately started with advanced life support resuscitation and called for the Netcare 911 medical helicopter to assist with the transport of the child.

“Paramedics worked fervently for some time and you could see the relief and joy in everyone when they managed to get the child’s heart to start beating again, and to top it all as the helicopter landed, the child started with spontaneous respiration,” said Botha.

After the child was stabilised, he was loaded on board the helicopter and then under the constant care of an emergency care practitioner, they airlifted him to a specialised facility for further care.
